CARNIVAL

Where to stay for the Torres Vedras Carnival

Dii Beach House is in Casalinhos de Alfaiata, 14 km from the centre of Torres Vedras. It is a private house for up to 6 guests.

Floats, matrafonas and balls until the early hours

The Torres Vedras Carnival has no samba schools: it has satirical political and social floats, matrafonas, cabeçudos and Zés-Pereiras, parades by day and by night, and balls until the early hours. Everyone dresses up, including visitors. It takes place in the days before Ash Wednesday, in February or early March. The official programme, with the days and times of the parades and balls, is published at carnavaldetorresvedras.pt.

From the house to the Carnival

By car it is 14 km, with street parking next to the house. There is also a bus between Santa Cruz and Torres Vedras, for those who prefer not to drive at night. The house is away from the crowds of the town centre and you sleep in silence.

After the parade, a heated pool at 28–32 °C

In February, Carnival nights are cold. At the house, theindoor pool is heated to 28–32 °C all year round, and the fireplace is lit for the evening. A dip at the end of the afternoon, before going out, or the next morning: it is the difference between a hotel and a home.

Practical tips

  • Book early: it is the busiest week of the winter.
  • Tickets for the parades and balls are bought on the official Carnival website.
  • Combine the Carnival with a morning at the beach or a surf session: the house is between Ericeira and Peniche.
